10 Utterly Irritating Video Game Heroes You Were Supposed To Love

Wakka - Final Fantasy X Video games tend to lean towards the age-old method of creating conflict between characters, which is also used frequently in literature and film. This technique allows them to create ultra-cool heroes who we can idolize, while creating villains that are easy to hate. Unfortunately, sometimes video game developers lose their way during this process. Instead of introducing heroes we enjoy to play as and ultimately want to succeed, they create annoying weirdos, who we would much rather destroy than count as an ally. Seriously, some of these characters are so irritating that you would rather sit on a sofa made from running chainsaws than spend 15 minutes in a room with them. It's a real shame, because some of these heroes are only irritating because of the circumstances the plot places them in - however you will still find it difficult to forgive them.

10. Aerith Gainsborough - Final Fantasy VII

rsz_aerithgainsboroughfull216493 Let's start off with a controversial entry - the much beloved party member from FFVII, Aerith. Aerith is a powerful healer, and can also hold her own in a fight. As she is the only party member in the game who closely resembles the classic White Mage character, many gamers thought she would be in the party for a while. Oh, how foolish did we feel? Aerith gives you just enough time to start liking her as a character, as you enhance her healing abilities and become intrigued by her back-story before being brutally murdered by Sephiroth. After spending several hours buying Aerith new equipment and boosting her stats, this is not only a massive blow to your team strength, it's also incredibly annoying. Fair enough, it's not really Aerith's fault she was stabbed by a ridiculously long sword, but it's difficult not to resent her for taking up so much of your time and money before suddenly checking out. Most annoying quote: "I'll be going now. I'll come back when it's all over."
