10 Video Game Betrayals Nobody Saw Coming

5. Iron Bull - Dragon Age: Inquisition

Okay, so this betrayal technically happens in Dragon Age: Inquisition's Trespasser DLC, but it was so surprising and such a major moment in the game's overall narrative that it absolutely deserved a spot on this list.

Throughout the main game Iron Bull is one of your strongest companions, with his romance option in particular being one of the best and most heartwarming in the whole cast. Unfortunately, when it comes to the DLC, unless you've completed Bull's personal quest (and even if you have and accidentally got his friends murdered), he'll turn on you in a heartbeat just before its climax.

Admittedly you have to be a little terror yourself a let the Chargers - essentially the only family he has left - get killed. However, even if you do save them and your approval rating is low he might still turn on you, meaning you can't entirely guarantee his allegiance, especially if you haven't read up on it beforehand.
