10 Video Game Betrayals Nobody Saw Coming
6. Alphys - Undertale
Nothing is ever as it seems in Undertale, yet for some reason you leave your caution at the door when you bump into Alphys during a trip through the Hotlands.
Maybe it's the fact that they accidentally created an entertainment murder-bot obsessed with being the biggest celebrity in the underworld or their love of nerd tat that lulls you into thinking they're not capable of being just as devious as everyone else you've met, but they're immediately one of the most likeable characters in a game packed with lovable rogues.
However, while Alphys seems to be essential in getting you out of sticky situations, in particular handily putting the stop to insta-death lasers which block your progress, it's then revealed that she was the one who laid those traps for you in the first place.
It wasn't done in a malicious way to try and kill you or anything - you were never in any real danger - but after watching your journey and seeing your star rise, Alphys decided to selfishly insert themselves into your narrative to occupy a helper role, undoing challenges they were secretly responsible for.
