10 Video Game Bosses Defeated By A Cutscene

As one of the biggest franchises on Xbox, Gears of War offered a killer app that brought countless gamers into the Microsoft fold with its burly and bloody action. As Marcus Fenix, you take on underground monsters called Locusts across three games.

The Locust Queen is a consistent presence throughout the trilogy, often narrating the proceedings to explain the wider story and why the locust seek to claim dominion on the surface. The player encounters her at the locust hollow, but she's able to escape the flood that ends the game, keeping her race alive to fight another day.

When we get to Gears of War 3, it's time to kill off the species for good. For the final encounter however, you'll be fighting the Queen's monstrous mount. The Tempest is a flying behemoth with fire breath and the ability to summon fellow locust to ruin your day.

Not exactly cut out for combat, the Locust Queen meets her demise when Marcus Fenix stabs her at the end of the game. She dies along with the locust and lambent, purging the planet Sera of all deadly threats, a fitting end to the trilogy. More to the point, Marcus gutting the queen avenges his best friend Dom, who sacrificed himself earlier in the campaign to save the team.
