10 Video Game Bosses Defeated By A Cutscene
7. The Saviour - Devil May Cry 4
As one of Capcom's most popular franchises, Devil May Cry has led the way for the hack-and-slash genre, offering countless thrills along its two-decade lineage.
For the fourth mainline entry, Devil May Cry 4 introduced fans to Nero, a new protagonist who took on half the game's runtime and served as a rival to series icon Dante. His primary opponent however, was the Order of the Sword, led by the High Priest Sanctus.
While Sanctus, better known as "his holiness" serves the main adversary throughout the game, the leader of the Order of the Sword is also flanked by The Saviour, a towering behemoth set to purge the world of all demons upon its awakening. In Devil May Cry 4's final act, it takes centre stage for a couple of levels as the player battles the living statue.
Ultimately though, the Saviour doesn't fall from player input. Despite taking on the titan previously, it's Nero's power in a cutscene that ultimately bests The Saviour; latching onto the beast's head with his demon arm, the protagonist yanks the statue down to the ground.
By balancing out an earlier fight with a visually impressive final takedown, Devil May Cry 4 is able to conclude its rocking campaign with an extravagant final flourish.
