10 Video Game Bosses That Learned From Their Mistakes

4. Jr. Troopa - Paper Mario

Alien Isolation
Nintendo

Paper Mario is a wonderful tongue-in-cheek RPG with lots of creative boss fights. One of them involves a particularly persistent and resourceful little guy.

Called Jr. Troopa, this adorable little hatchling becomes obsessed with fighting Mario after he and his posse encroach on his "playground." Though Jr. is barely out of his shell at that point, he isn't afraid to challenge the plumber at all. Even after he gets defeated, he doesn't lose his battle fervor and only becomes more motivated to improve his fighting style.

Throughout the course of the game, the player has to fight Jr. Troopa a total of six times. Jr. becomes stronger after each fight, utilizing new powers and equipment to counter the attacks Mario had used against him before. He grows wings, invests in a spiked helmet, and even becomes a student of magic, just so that he can put Mario in his place.

Jr. Troopa's story is one of the more entertaining aspects of the game. There's just something inherently hilarious about a tiny child chasing Mario around the world just because a man took a detour through his private play place.
