10 Video Game Bosses That Learned From Their Mistakes
5. Blue (Your Rival) - Pokemon Fire Red
As much as Nuzlocke enthusiasts and IV hunters out there might beg to differ, Pokemon games are actually pretty easy. The greatest challenge you're likely to face in most of them is going up against a gym leader without enough Pokemon to counter their type specialization. This said, if there ever was an NPC that had the chance to be an actual threat to the player, it was probably Blue, the original rival from the first generation of Pokemon games.
Most people who played Pokemon Red and Blue can remember how much of a pain fighting your rival was. Whenever Blue (or whatever mean name you gave him in the beginning) appeared, his team always seemed to counter your team perfectly. This was because Blue was actually smart enough to make changes to his team whenever he lost.
Unlike most modern Pokemon rivals, Blue didn't just catch random Pokemon and then level them up. After each defeat, he would upgrade his team with more type-specific Pokemon to ensure he had the perfect counter to whatever you had on your team.
His team composition was actually somewhat commendable, if not utterly annoying.
