10 Video Game Characters Who Became Villains By Accident
5. King Dedede - Kirby's Adventure
King Dedede is an iconic villain from the Kirby series that typically acts as a bad guy trying to enact his rule over the Dreamland's creatures (emphasis on trying).
The penguin makes a villainous cameo in Kirby's Adventure as well, however, in this particular title, his villainy is not the result of his typical motives but rather a simple (and really dumb) mistake.
In the game, King Dedede stops the actual villain of the story, the Nightmare, from destroying Dreamland by trapping him inside the Star Rod and then shattering it into seven pieces that he gives to seven of his lackeys.
Now, that doesn't sound bad, right? Except by using the Star Rod, King Dedede has accidentally stolen the power of the spring, which is responsible for giving all of Dreamland's residents pleasant dreams, urging Kirby to investigate.
His decision ultimately paints him as a villain of the story, and worse yet, it causes Kirby to unwittingly release the trapped Nightmare once he foils Dedede's plan and reassembles the broken rod.
It's like even when he wants to play the hero, Dedede still manages to do wrong, just by being a lazy airhead with poor planning skills.
