10 Video Game Characters Who Were Secretly The Villain All Along

6. Ferris Boyle - Batman: Arkham Origins

Devil May Cry 3 Jester
WB Games Montréal

When you first meet Ferris Boyle in the Arkham Origins Cold Cold Heart DLC, you likely think he's a decent dude, ignoring all the logical red flags that he should raise. After all, anyone familiar with him in the comics or cartoon knows he's a bad guy - but damn it, you still kind of hope otherwise.

And so it it likely still comes as a surprise when it's revealed that Mr. Freeze's current villainous rampage is actually entire Boyle's fault. The pair had originally agreed to work together, with Victor helping Boyle's research, and Boyle promising his facilities to help aid Freeze in finding a cure for his wife's terminal illness.

Instead of fulfilling his side of the deal, Boyle took a swan dive of the deep end, complete with a triple backflip. After reneging his promise to help Freeze, Boyle locked in his lab while the scientist slowly transformed into the permanently sub-zero villain we know today, due to a serum that had been released in there.

After Batman manages to weaken Victor, Boyle uses a freeze beam to trap him in a block of ice, that he believes will kill the Bat, before taunting Freeze by telling him he's going to make him watch while he pulls his wife out of cryogenic sleep, killing her.

Which makes it really, really satisfying when you finally get to punch his smug expression right off.
