10 Video Game Console Features NOBODY Used
7. DualShock 4 Speaker - PlayStation 4
One of the several potentially nifty new features included on the DualShock 4 was a speaker which would output peripheral audio in an attempt to complement the gameplay experience.
The speaker was most memorably put to use in a few launch titles such as Knack, where Knack's granular, size-changing sound effect was played through it, and Killzone: Shadow Fall, where it could be used to play audio logs.
It was a neat idea, albeit one which few games used at all, and fewer still used in ways that were actually creative and beneficial to the overall experience.
Evidently, developers weren't as enamoured with the idea as Sony themselves were, and so by the end of the PS4's generation it was more-or-less a dead feature.
Many players meanwhile found the speaker more irritating than immersive, especially if playing late at night with others nearby.
Mercifully, at least, Sony allowed players to deactivate the speaker, seemingly confirming just how much of a dubious novelty it truly was.
