10 Video Game Console Features NOBODY Used
6. Nintendo TVii - Wii U
Sandwiched between the ultra-successful Wii and Switch, the Wii U was an undeniable flop for Nintendo, a poorly marketed console that failed to capture the imaginations of players in the ways that its predecessor and successor did.
One of its most eccentric features is one which didn't even make its way to Europe in the end - the Nintendo TVii service, which attempted to use the Wii U gamepad as an all-purpose media device, to watch VOD streaming services, load local TV listings, and control players' cable TV setup direct from the console.
The launch promised nifty social media integration for maximum versatility, but Nintendo TVii was ultimately a feature which most players tested out maybe once before never touching again - or in the case of Europe, not even once.
Less than three years after the Wii U's launch, Nintendo shuttered the TVii service, presumably due to the abject lack of interest, not to mention the fact that the Wii U's global sales topped out at just 13.56 million.
