10 Video Game Deaths You Were POWERLESS To Stop (But Kept Trying Anyway)

4. Ethan Forrester - Telltale's Game of Thrones

For all of its flaws, Telltale's Game of Thrones episodic adventure game held true to the TV series' mantra of "nobody is safe."

Case in point, one of the main playable characters introduced in the game's first episode is Ethan Forrester, the young teenage heir to House Forrester.

Of all the main characters, he probably seems the "safest," and even if not, this being a Telltale game and all, you might get some choice in the matter, right?

Well, that's not what happens. Instead, at the end of the very first episode, Ethan is savagely stabbed to death by the all-timer bastard Ramsay Bolton.

Now at first, players might assume that they can go back, make some different decisions and give Ethan a reprieve, but in actual fact, all story permutations lead to the same tragic outcome for Ethan - there's no way for players to save him.

While many players were frustrated that they couldn't find another fate for Ethan, it was also a smart feat of Telltale toying with expectations, that even though players have a lot of agency, they can't control everything.
