10 Video Game Endings That Totally Trolled Players

Now, if any developers were likely to pull off a silly ending on their players, it was the Earthworm Jim team. After all, these are not games to be taken seriously. When gameplay highlights include dropping a refrigerator on a seesaw to launch the cow on the other side into space, it’s safe to say that the seriousness ship has sailed.

The Earthworm Jim games are full to the brim with silliness and gross snot jokes of the highest order. They could also be surprisingly difficult run and gun titles, but those who finished the original while playing on easy were in for a surprise.

The special edition would simply offer the message "U’re the best!" by means of an ending screen, followed by the extended message: “What a worm! Playing on easy eh!! Well you had better step up the difficulty if you want to see the real ending. In the meantime though…” this was followed by around five minutes of scrolling text of worm trivia, beginning with "What Are Worms?"

“Worms are so different from one another that zoologists do not classify them together in a single group; they place them in about a dozen different and often unrelated taxonomic groups called phyla,” we’re told.

Still, this is probably preferable to the real ending, in which the cow Jim launched into space earlier lands on the freshly rescued Princess What’s-Her-Name. Hilariously tragic.
