10 Video Game Endings That Totally Trolled Players
5. Metroid - Samus Is A Woman
It’s quite remarkable just how much Nintendo managed to achieve with Metroid, a 1986 release for the humble NES. The franchise would go on to be defined by its incomparable eerie atmosphere and spirit of lonely exploration; it’s super impressive just how much of this was present and correct right from the start.
There was no action title quite like Metroid for the system, a futuristic adventure through an alien world that offered something far deeper than simply blasting a variety of aliens into gross hunks of space-flesh (not that there wasn’t a little of that to do throughout).
Perhaps the most influential element of the original Metroid was the fact that it featured a female main character, one of the very first in the industry.
This was quite the secret, revealed only to players who completed the game in a fast-enough time (within five hours). This feat unlocked a secret ending in which Samus appeared without her Power Suit, wordlessly revealing what was, at the time, a "shocking" twist.
