10 Video Game Endings Worse Than A Game Over
2. You And Diablo Hang Out - Diablo
For the majority of your time playing Diablo, your task is very clear: defeat the evil demon Diablo, and rescue the prince he and his forces kidnapped.
This seems like fantasy gaming 101, so you happily oblige. Only, after nobly slaying Diablo, you discover an awful secret - the demon had been inhabiting the body of the prince, who you have now just totally (if accidentally) murdered.
And that hasn't properly taken out Diablo himself, either, because the crystal that contains him is still hanging around.
In a dark twist, you end up putting the Soulstone into your own forehead, in order to protect anyone else from becoming possessed by demonic forces, hoping your own strength will protect you from such a fate. Which is nice and all, but the plot of Diablo II makes it very, very clear that you fail and become super possessed, so all your efforts in the first game were for literally nothing.
In fact, they may have actively made everything a bit worse, given you're likely a more powerful body for Diablo to have than that of the prince you took him out of.
