2. The Host - Evolve
Ah, remember Evolve? A game with so much promise that just fell short of the mark.
The asymmetrical multiplayer game originally featured a bonkers elite enemy called The Host - a giant fleshy mass with a huge mouth in its middle, filled with razor-sharp teeth no less.
A released gameplay demo of The Host in action showed that it would release various parasites to pester the player, including explosive, acid-spitting parasites, armoured parasites, and even parasites which could lay eggs inside the player that hatch more of the damn things. Gnarly.
The Host never made it to the final game, though, and once again it was because it proved too cumbersome for the developers to figure out.
Apparently, Turtle Rock Studios struggled with technical issues related to the Host's implementation, and so it never made it out of the prototype stage.
The test footage sure did look neat, though, so it's a damn shame this one never made it to players.
