1. Den Defense: Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Assassin's Creed is a series that is, for the most part, imaginative and innovative in terms of story and gameplay.

This innovation isn't always a case of instant success, though. As evidenced by this being the third Assassin's Creed entry on this list, Ubisoft pump so many ideas into the franchise that many of them don't quite land.

Another such example is the den defense missions in the fourth main title in the series, Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

While the AC series is praised for its open-world, stealth/action/platformer hybrid style of gameplay and historical settings, someone thought it would be worth throwing in a few tower defense style missions just to see how they'd be received by fans.

The strange part is, they weren't bad. Den defense was a little jarring to some players, given that it's such a far cry from the series' usual gameplay elements, but it was executed relatively well. It just wasn't what anyone expected. Or needed, for that matter.
