10 Video Game Franchises Where Nobody Played The Original
6. Hitman: Codename 47
Agent 47 isn't terribly cuddly, but gamers have a soft spot for him regardless.
The Hitman series is really a sandbox puzzle game; one that rewards a player's creativity and exploration. Sure, you can pick up an assault rifle and blast through a level, but that’s a shallow way of doing things. The fun is sneaking around and finding the perfect way to quietly pull off a hit.
The first game came in 2000 for PC and pioneered the open level approach of later games. It has most of the series trademarks, with disguises, hidden passages and various gadgets available for the player to make use of. The formula hadn’t quite been perfected yet and many bugs – like enemies being able to recognise you in a disguise from far away – could lead to hair-pulling frustration.
Since Codename 47 has never been released for consoles it tends to be the least played in the series; a shame, since it’s well worth experiencing despite the flaws.
