10 Video Game Franchises Where Nobody Played The Original

3. System Shock

System Shock 2 wasn’t a huge hit upon release, but it’s since gone on to be considered one of the finest action horror games for the PC. Its innovative mix of exploration and survival horror made a lasting impact and would later inspire “spiritual” successor BioShock.

The game didn’t start life as a sequel to 1994’s System Shock, but morphed into one during development. The game follows a hacker trapped onboard a space station run by a murderous A.I. The player explores the creepy deserted station while searching for supplies, fighting enemies and solving puzzles.

The game holds up well today, despite some awkward controls. The use of music and sound remains unnerving, and while System Shock 2 was a leap forward in terms of looks and controls, the original set the template.

If you get the chance, you should play them both.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
