10 Video Game Franchises Where Nobody Played The Original
4. Street Fighter
Street Fighter 2 is one of those games that represents an entire era, bringing back warm memories for players of a certain age. Finding one of the old arcade machines was a ticket to gaming bliss, and while it didn’t have the gore of Mortal Kombat, it certainly had the more addicting gameplay.
It’s also famous for receiving about a million different versions over the years, and for later sequels failing to live up to its legacy.
While everyone praises the game and bows at its feet, spare a thought for poor Street Fighter. This 1987 title was Capcom’s first fighting game, and introduced key elements of the series. Ken and Ryu are there, but other iconic characters aren’t, and it lacks the polish and smooth gameplay of its successor.
Fans who’ve gone back tend to be underwhelmed, and while its importance is acknowledged, Street Fighter 2 will remain the undisputed champ forevermore.
