10 Video Game Goons Stronger Than The Final Boss!

5. Volatiles - Dying Light

It's almost a guarantee that you'll die to Volatiles in Dying Light repeatedly towards the start of your game. Between their crazy fast speed, their brutal strength, and the fact you'll definitely run into something while trying to look back at them, it's inevitable you'll see the gross death cutscene of its open, formerly human maw coming for your jugular.

Since the last boss of the regular game is technically just a regular human - who you fight by parkouring your way over to him, and then quicktime event-ing him to death, this makes these enemies even more intimidating comparatively.

It also is one of the most interesting parts of the game. Where most series that have day and night cycles don't really affect the actual gameplay, Dying Light makes it a literal matter of life and death until you're strong enough to face these baddies.

Venturing around in the dark waiting for a swift chase (and possible swift murder) makes the first half of the game actively tense and exciting. When you're finally able to easily overcome the Volatiles, it feels like you can take on just about anything - because you more or less now can.
