10 Video Game Movies That Could Genuinely Work

4. Ratchet & Clank (Done Right)

Ratchet and Clank is the only game on this list to already have a movie made. The movie was bad and does nothing to prove why the franchise could work on the big screen. If anything, it firmly kills the movie hopes of the franchise. However, there is one crucial detail that gives the titular duo hope on the silver screen. The film was not a Ratchet and Clank film. It was a standard, child's cartoon with their names plastered on it.

If film-makers were to take the original game and adapt it and its principles to the big screen, then we would have something special. The original game was a parody of excessive commercialism with everyone out to make a quick buck. The villain was a corrupt businessman after all. So, making a movie with that commercial parody at the centre would be excellent.

It could poke fun at the movie industry and be framed around being a parody of Hollywood. Throw in some guns and explosions, and you've got yourself a decent cartoon.

And, most importantly of all, don't completely overhaul the visuals to make Ratchet a cute and cuddly little plushie. Having a cute little fluffball viscously murder people with excessive firepower is a little jarring.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
