10 Video Game Protagonists Who Were Doomed From The Start

6. Wander - Shadow of the Colossus

Persona 3
Bluepoint Games

Taking a deal with a demon is never a good idea in any scenario. At best you'll have to find a way to wriggle out of the price the demon exacts from you for its services. At worst? Well, it doesn't give you that chance.

The second Wander took Dormin's deal at the beginning of Shadow of the Colossus, his ticket was punched. Anyone in their right mind would have seen Dormin's task of defeating the Colossi as the load of BS that it was - doomed to failure at best, and guaranteed to come with a catch at worst. But, of course, Wander is very much not thinking straight in this game, wracked with grief over the loss of his lover Mono.

It turns out that the Colossi were housing the shards of Dormin's spirit. So killing them - while a horrific act on its face since the Colossi were innocent - also allowed Dormin to return to blight the land.

Thus, while Dormin's end of the bargain is seemingly kept - with Mono waking up at the end of the game - Wander is punished for his actions, and turned into a horned baby.
