10 Video Game Remakes That Are FINALLY Happening
4. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake
A remake of 2003's phenomenally influential Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was first announced by Ubisoft in September 2020 for a planned January 2021 release.
However, the publisher swiftly pumped the brakes following a vitriolic fan response to the reveal trailer, whose lacklustre visuals suggested that Ubisoft was quickly cranking this thing out for a fast buck.
To their credit, though, they indefinitely postponed the remaster and ultimately replaced studios Ubisoft Mumbai and Pune with their Montreal branch, who reportedly rebuilt the game from scratch.
Though fans remain baffled that a seemingly straight-forward remake project has taken so long to cook, it at least indicates that Ubisoft is taking the assignment seriously rather than kicking it out the door for some a cheap, nostalgia-baiting cash-in.
Ubisoft confirmed last year that the remake is due to drop sometime in 2026.
That may still be a little ways away, but by planting their flag so far out, it hopefully indicates the end result will be a hugely polished AAA remake worthy of the original's reputation.
