10 Video Game Remakes That Are FINALLY Happening

5. The Witcher Remake

Given the astronomical commercial success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, selling more than 50 million units since releasing in 2015, it's frankly shocking that it took developer CD Projekt Red so long to announce a remake of the original game.

When The Witcher was released in 2007, it performed considerably more modestly, shifting around 1 million units worldwide in a single year, guaranteeing that the majority of Witcher 3 players have never touched the O.G. title.

The remake was only announced in October 2022, more than seven years after the release of The Witcher 3.

Even accepting that CD Projekt Red has been plenty busy with both Cyberpunk 2077 and the impending fourth mainline Witcher, a ground-up remake of the first Witcher game is basically a license to print money if it's done well.

And there's little reason to expect that it won't be, because though the remake is being developed by an outside studio, Fool's Theory, it's being fully supervised by CD Projekt Red and key personnel who've worked on the Witcher games.

Plus, it's being powered by Unreal Engine 5, so you know it's going to look sublime.
