3. Gothic: Remake

Gothic is perhaps the definitive "Eurojank" game - an ambitious 2001 action-RPG that remains widely lauded for its story, characters, and visuals, even if it's also rife with bugs.

And in early 2020, THQ Nordic announced that a ground-up remake was in development, after a proof-of-concept demo was released online in late 2019 to a rapturous response from the fanbase.

Yet more than five years later, we're still waiting for the thing to come out, and given that THQ Nordic's parent company Embracer Group has ruthlessly cancelled dozens of games over the last few years, some fans resigned themselves to the possibility of the remake having been quietly scrapped.

But that certainly isn't the case, as at the start of the year developer Alkimia Interactive confirmed that Gothic: Remake was pencilled in for a 2025 release.

And if you still weren't convinced by the remake's progress, a solidly received demo was even released as part of Steam Next Fest back in February.

It certainly seems like the remake is coming along well, and after a half-decade of waiting, it'll finally be in players' hands within the next nine months.
