10 Video Game Series Netflix Must Adapt
6. Alan Wake
A break from the larger scale blockbuster type entries on this list so far, Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller – developed by Remedy Entertainment – which takes its inspiration from the writing of Stephen King and TV shows such as Twin Peaks and Lost.
The game tells the story of famous novelist Alan Wake, who goes on vacation with his wife Alice, who arranged the trip to help rid Alan of the writer’s block he has been suffering from for two years. Shortly after arriving, Alan – returning from a short walk – witnesses Alice being dragged into the lake by an unseen force and dives in to rescue her, before blacking out. He awakens a week later, beside a crashed car, with a new manuscript in his name, which he has no memory of writing and no memory of how he got there.
Alan spends the rest of the story literally chasing shadows as he attempts to uncover the mystery of his wife’s disappearance – battling dark enemies called “The Taken”, who are impervious to harm until they are exposed to light, making a flashlight an essential tool to Alan Wake’s survival.
