10 Video Game Side Characters That Got Their Own (Better) Spin-Off
6. Specter Knight - Shovel Knight: Specter Of Torment
When Shovel Knight first came out, it received critical acclaim as one of the best platformers of 2014. Its retro-style graphics, combined with solid mechanics and a silly but loveable cast of characters, made it an instant classic.
The titular Shovel Knight was definitely a fan favorite, however the rest of the whacky knights he had to go up against made a mark too. Each had something unique to offer with their gimmicks and personalities, which is why a handful ended up getting their own games.
Starting with Plague Knight and ending with King Knight, the Shovel Knight series features three distinct spin-off games that focus on Shovel Knight's enemies. The best one of them all, even better than the original Shovel Knight, is the Specter Knight's campaign, Specter of Torment.
The spooky knight's special abilities, like wall climbing and dash attacks, make him a particularly fun character to play as. The game also managed to expand upon the character's backstory, making him the most sympathetic of all the knights, despite starting off as a pretty bland antagonist.
He may be a ghost, but his game is a living masterpiece.
