10 Video Game Side Missions That MASSIVELY Change The Main Story
4. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Allies Of Bruma
Oblivion was a defining RPG for many players. Set within the Cyrodiil province, it takes place six years after Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, seeing you attempt to thwart “Mythic Dawn”, a fanatical cult attempting to open a series of portal gates, leading to a demonic realm called Oblivion.
Oblivion was notable for letting you suspend the main quest, allowing you to explore Cyrodiil’s open world at your leisure but coming towards its end, you’d find a giant gate appearing at Bruma. Tasked with the city’s defence, you then have two options.
Either you can dive straight into this mission or take on a new side mission, “Allies For Bruma” and that requires visiting each major city. You must convince each Count to lend troops for support and that involves closing their own Oblivion gates.
It’s an arduous task, one you can partially complete, but defending Bruma is no easy fight, so you’ll want all the support you can get. By completing this, it sets the scene for this battle, seeing the major cities come together in Bruma’s hour of need.
