10 Video Game Signs You HAD To Ignore
4. The Hidden Sign - Grand Theft Auto III (2001)
Everybody loves a good Easter egg, especially when it's purposely hard to find. And by the law of video games, no stone must be left unturned - even if it means reaching areas you're quite clearly not meant to be in.
GTA III's groundbreaking open world structure gave the developers new freedoms that had scarcely been touched upon before. And when it comes to hiding things within this open world, you can practically hear them at their computers going, "check, check, aaaaand check".
From a car park in Bedford Point, a pretty convoluted rooftop route will take you down into a hidden alley, in which a deliberately out-of-place sign says, "You werent supposed to be able to get here you know".
Now, if you're the kind of gamer who's cautious to a fault, you might see this and think, "oh god, I'd better get out of here before I break the game!" But, more likely, you'll take this sign as an incentive to go cramming yourself into all sorts of nooks and crannies around the open world, motivated to try and find other Easter eggs like this one.
Sure enough, fortune favours the bold, and if you then get to the same alley in the PS2 version of GTA III, you'll be greeted with the message: "You just can't get enough of this alley, can you?"
