10 Video Games Based On Horror Movies You've Completely Forgotten About
3. Sweet Home
There are landmark releases scattered throughout the short history of gaming that resulted in seismic shifts in the way games are developed and played. Resident Evil is one of those games. However, there is another game that preceded that iconic title. One which the zombie franchise itself was influenced by, owes a significant pound of flesh to, and was also produced by Capcom.
Released exclusively in Japan on the Famicom, Sweet Home was adapted from the Japanese horror movie of the same name, and it featured an incredibly unique blend of survival horror, role-playing, and quick-time events that few of its contemporary counterparts could boast.
Playing the game, you took control of a group of characters who get trapped inside of a haunted mansion whilst searching for long-forgotten frescos. Realising their lives are in danger, they must find a way out of the intricate building through puzzle-solving and vanquishing spooky beasts.
Sweet Home is essential gaming history and without it, we would never have had Resident Evil. Now that's a scary world to live in.
