4. Crazy Taxi (2000)

A fast and frantic driving game which dominated living rooms in the early 2000s when it was released on the Dreamcast, the Crazy Taxi series let players loose on city streets as a taxi driver with zero care for public safety or The Highway Code.

Originally released as an arcade game in 1999, this title had a basic, though somewhat repetitive gameplay loop. Players would drive around a map, pick up eager passengers, and drive them to their destination as fast and stylishly as they could. The faster and more stylish the journey, the more points would be racked up.

In short, Crazy Taxi was tonnes of fun. It was colourful, controlled well, and featured an exhilarating soundtrack that featured The Offspring and Bad Religion (though those were removed in later ports due to licensing issues).

Despite becoming one of the best-selling games in the US at the time, the series quickly ran out of fuel. Aside from a handful of portable and mobile games released over the next decade - the most recent being a business management mobile game in 2017 - Crazy Taxi has become a fond memory to anyone who experienced the rush of being a taxi driver.
