10 Video Games Ruined By Absolutely Terrible Controls

2. Super Mario 64 DS

Super Mario 64 DS did so much right, adding brand new characters to play, new levels with new stars and a host of other cool features. But one place it totally fell down was in the controls department.

For a start, one of the main things that made 3D platformers exciting in the first place was the invention of the N64's analogue stick, which allowed for smooth, precise control in a 3D plain. But the Nintendo DS totally lacked an analogue stick, having nothing but the standard ABXY buttons and a D-pad.

Nintendo's "elegant" solution to this issue was to put a virtual analogue stick on the lower touch screen, allowing players to drag their thumb or stylus around in order to control Mario.

But with absolutely no physical feedback, the whole thing felt completely off, ruining what is otherwise a fantastic port of an incredible game. It's just a pity it's impossible to play properly.
