10 Video Games Ruined By TERRIBLE Bosses
7. Axiom Verge
A possibly sacrilegious entry now, as classic metroidvania Axiom Verge has a lot of supporters, and that even extends to its maddeningly difficult boss fights.
As mechanically fluid and gorgeous to behold as the game is, those bosses drain much of the fun out of the experience.
As wonderfully, unnervingly grotesque as most of the bosses are to look at, they're also horrendously punishing bullet sponges which take a damn age to put down.
Outside of the more involved final boss, they're all straight-forward to a fault, which only makes their increasingly masochistic level of difficulty that much more grating to persevere through. Much like Sonic Superstars, they're an offputting combination of cheap and distended.
Yet in a classic case of creative over-correction, for the sequel creator Thomas Happ decided to make boss fights entirely optional, with no punishment for skipping, in an attempt to allow more players to, you know, actually reach the end.
