10 Video Games That Are Far Creepier Than They Look
7. Bloodborne - Is It Me Or Did It Just Become Very Supernatural In Here?
Now,
granted, Bloodborne appears to be a title that wears its creepiness on its
sleeve from the off. With its drab, Victorian-inspired setting, air of
horrifying mystery and the blood-dripping werewolf-beast that tries to rend
your flesh with its claws about eight seconds in, it seems that you know what
you’re in for with this FromSoftware classic.
What Bloodborne does so brilliantly, though, is slowly introduce an insidious supernatural horror to proceedings. As the game opens up, it becomes clear that something Lovecraftian, something otherworldly, lurks beneath the surface. This is no clichéd, dark and smoky Jack the Ripper-tinged horror experience. It’s more subtle, and rather more affecting for it.
As the player collects Insight, more of the true, distorting and horrifying nature of things is revealed to them. This enigmatic tale of the Great Ones is a heck of a ride.
