10 Video Games That Butchered Brilliant Endings
3. Batman: Arkham Knight
Arkham Knight ruined its great ending. The entire game built up the reveal of the Arkham Knight, and it was meant to be momentous. The backing for an epic showdown was there, and the game could have done so much to make the boss-fight something spectacular.
It should have been a culmination of all the game's boss fights. It should have been Mr. Freeze meets Deathstroke. It was the chance for the developers to put the player against another more ruthless Batman, and be on the receiving end of the tactics they'd used for years. But, instead, it was a sneaky, "trigger the animation" showdown with no challenge.
And then they segregated the true ending behind hundreds of Riddler trophies. No one enjoys the Riddler trophies. It was a disappointing end to an amazing franchise. People were annoyed that the Arkham Knight was revealed to be Jason Todd, but the real reason the reveal was so disappointing came from nothing special being done with it.
It was very much a Scooby Doo - just pull off the mask, gasp, and done.
