10 Video Games That Don't Get The Love They Deserve

2. Deathloop

Bethesda

The most recent game on this list, Deathloop had all the makings of being a smash hit for Arkane and Bethesda. Dishonoured seems to have run its course, whilst space "reboot" Prey still grabs new players from time to time.

Deathloop, even without studio comparisons, looked set to reinvent the rogue/time loop style of game so prevalent in recent years. Death wasn't definitive, just an inconvenience in Colt's mission.

Except... it came out to very mixed reviews. Obvious comparisons to Dishonoured's stealth or Prey's exploration mechanics were made, with it being regarded as too action-y and linear, respectively.

Yet, and this may shock you, it's neither of those things. Yes, you can go guns blazing and yes, there is a linear day-night structure, but that's not Deathloop's limitations.

Half the fun is working out the plan to end the loop, the other is in trying to execute it without causing too much reaction that disrupts everything like a sci-fi domino effect.

Paired with an invasion mechanic (that can be set to AI if you like), Deathloop is a surprisingly witty and deeply explorative game, just like any of Arkane's offerings.

Go off the beaten track, find new and inventive ways to kill Visionaries, and there's an extremely deep and well-written game in here.
