Why The Difference?

Never underestimate the blowback that an adamant group of franchise fans can generate. No matter how good of a job a developer thinks they may have done crafting the new entrant to a series, it is ultimately the most hardcore members of the fanbase that will have the final word.

That’s certainly the case with the 2013 reboot of Devil May Cry. Though not universally beloved among critics, many still praised this game for its original sense of style and interesting characters. Devil May Cry fans in the gaming community, however, were not so impressed.

Aside from a few technical issues, most of the complaints centred around the game’s radical departures in difficulty, combat system and general tone. The word "casual" was tossed about quite liberally to degrade the game's attempt to broaden the appeal of Devil May Cry by making certain elements more accessible.

Hey, you can’t please everyone.
