10 Video Games That Fans And Critics Will Never Agree On
5. Diablo III (PC)
Metacritic Score: 88
User Score: 4.0
Why The Difference?
If you play Diablo III on PC in its current state, you’ll probably have a hard time understanding just why there is such a great divide between its critic and gamer scores. What’s not to love about a beautiful, addictive and faithful return to form for one of gaming’s greatest franchises?
Well, initially, quite a lot. Much of the scorn Diablo III attracted shortly after its release can be traced back to Blizzard's decision to make its single-player mode require an online connection. In and of itself, this was already a controversial policy, but things got particularly heated when fans soon discovered that nobody could actually maintain a connection long enough to play the game. Critics, meanwhile, were able to play their early builds free of this issue.
Even then, there was quite a bit of backlash concerning Diablo III’s removed features and perceived change in tone. Thankfully, Blizzard was ultimately able to please most Diablo fans on both sides through subsequent releases and updates.
