8. Max Payne - Max Payne 3

Max Payne's final moments play out in a way you didn't even realise they could. Which is to say, the blood-soaked rollercoaster of bullets and slow-motion dives that makes up the trilogy is showing no signs of slowing down, watching Max waste scores of gun-toting goons in quick succession, ending by tracking down and killing/crippling a couple of final boss types.

Then... calm.

Max disappears off to the gorgeous sun-kissed beaches of Bahia, Brazil, and the formerly intense footage of evildoer Victor Branco getting his leg snapped has turned into news footage.

Max downs a beer and begins walking down the beach, finally finding some respite now that every last plot thread in his life is completely tied up. He looks to the horizon (and the potential for more sequels if Rockstar REALLY want to go there), but also shows that the sun is setting, both for the character and the franchise.
