10 Video Games That Gave Iconic Characters The Endings They Deserved

7. Zidane Tribal & Princess Garnett - Final Fantasy IX

Fairytale endings can be so saccharine sweet they leave an aftertaste you'll never shift, but in FF IX's case (and maybe because I was young enough to just revel in the moment) it lands sublimely.

Coming after your monkey-tailed hero has seemingly gotten himself turned to stone inside the Evil Forest, we'd seen the gallant thief make a sprint for it, only for the game to cut to Princess Garnett/Dagger 'enjoying' a play back at the safety of her castle. The play revolves around a hooded figure playing one of the lead roles, and as it looks like all his lost, he asks for one wish...

"I beseech thee, wondrous moonlight, grant me my only wish."

You take a quick intake of breath...

"Bring my beloved Dagger to me!"

AND IT'S HIM! The cape gets whipped off, Zidane's full stature is revealed with no wounds or anything of the sort, and our Princess sprints down to meet her beloved. The two embrace as the music swells, and you start recounting the incredible adventure you've been on to get to this moment, just as the credits start to elegantly roll in.

What? A tear? Nooo...
