10 Video Games That Killed The Main Character Early
9. Kara - Detroit: Become Human
One of the most distinctive elements of Quantic Dream's "interactive drama" games is the potential for central characters to die early if players do the wrong thing, effectively closing off entire story branches in the process.
Granted, you need to screw things up pretty severely - and repeatedly - to give characters an early exit, but in Detroit: Become Human more than any of the company's prior games, you were able to deliver an untimely death to several major characters.
Android Kara is the easiest protagonist to take out early, as players can get her perma-killed in the game's thirteenth chapter, "On the Run", barely one-third of the way through the story.
Keep failing a QTE when Kara and her child companion Alice are fleeing from law enforcement android Connor and Kara will eventually be fatally hit by a car...along with poor Alice.
This results in a massive chunk of the game's story being walled off during this playthrough, though the nature of Detroit's free-flowing narrative provides a major incentive for going back to see what the rest of her narrative offered up.
But again, you need to be really bad at the game to kill Kara early on without actually intending to.
