10 Video Games That Mocked You For Buying The Sequel
8. Deltarune
The boots Deltarune had to fill were bigger than a final boss' health bar. Still, one of the funniest things about the game's initial chapters is that they not only switched up the formula - they also mocked gamers who came in looking to play another Undertale game.
Deltarune constantly pokes the bear, with the bear being players and the stick being their expectations. For a start, the game begins with a character creation suite that tasks you with making a "vessel." However, your character gets discarded immediately because "no one can choose who they are in this world."
This move makes it clear right off the bat that the player agency found in Undertale will be far less freeing here. You also learn early on that the game will be far more linear, telling you where to go and limiting your choices.
There's also plenty of self-referential moments poking fun at your Undertale expectations. For example, Susie (a party member) will constantly try to fight enemies to ruin the no-death pacifist run the game knows you're trying.
All this reminds you that you're not playing Undertale 2, so you'd better buckle up and get used to it.
