Diablo is a long-running and successful series that has gone on to influence many other popular releases to this day. Each game has had a measure of success, however, number Three in the series had a few missteps on the way.

Diablo 3 was reviewed well and even set a record for fastest-selling PC game, it managed to sell 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. However, some of the problems on release sullied this otherwise good launch.

The game had an always-online DRM, which meant that even when you were playing the story mode you had to be connected to the internet. This is inconvenient but not a massive problem, if your servers work that is. Imagine that 3.5 million people all trying to be on the servers at once, many couldn’t stay online or even connect in the first place.

On top of this, the game gained criticism from the use of its Auction house. You could spend real-life money to get high-level equipment, this ruined the game’s economy.

Luckily, Blizzard managed to sort out and balance these issues as the game progressed. New expansions and releases on other platforms would add in many more popular features, helping the game to maintain its popularity. Hopefully Blizzard have learned from their past mistakes.
