10 Video Games That Overstayed Their Welcome
3. Dark Souls II (2014)
The Dark Souls series has been championed by many for its tough-but-fair gameplay alongside its blend of horror and fantasy. However, out of these games, Dark Souls II has become the outcast of the three games. Though the sequel has its collection of devout fans who praise the new ideas that were brought to the table, there are just as many who dislike the game for what it did differently.
The main issue with this game is that it’s overstuffed with needless content. Compared to Dark Soul’s 13 bosses, DS2 contains 32 boss fights (not including the DLC). If these fights aren't forgettable encounters with glorified mobs, they’re tedious bouts that employ cryptic tactics like obtaining special items to deplete a monstrous-sized health pool or burning a mill to drain poison. And this is before the DLCs escalated the difficulty to borderline unfair.
The biggest detractor of DS2 is Hidetaka Miyazaki’s noticeable absence from the project. Without his creative spark giving life to the world, everything about Dark Souls II feels like a hollow imitation of the series.
Drudging through this game in its entirety is a bigger challenge than any of the bosses.
