When you're a superpowered individual in a world where everyone else isn't, the only thing that can realistically stand up to you is another superpowered individual...in the form of a building-sized lava monster. Naturally.
Once a man named John White, the entity known as The Beast is frenzied and indiscriminate in its destructive tendencies during its initial rebirth. Its primary target, however, is the player, Cole MacGrath, and the game's opening section has him fight off the creature with everything he's got before it can cause any more chaos.
Over the course of the game, White regains control of himself, and by the end, suggests to Cole that they form an alliance. And you can very well do this - if you're planning on going down the Evil Karma route.
But if you want to remain a good boy, then The Beast must be stopped, and in a spectacular action-packed epilogue, that's exactly what you have to do. Although, this is one fight you won't be walking away from scot free...
