3. Final Fantasy XIII-2

In a JRPG, you can usually tell who the main villain is a mile away, even if they don't have much of a role to play until the end. And since Final Fantasy XIII-2 discards this whole ambiguity element, it's even more obvious this time.

Caius Ballad is the hated enemy of the Final Fantasy XIII series' protagonist, Lightning, and the two are locked in an endless battle within the realm of Valhalla.

The game begins when Caius transforms into his demonic dragon form, Chaos Bahamut, and the battle that ensues with Lightning on horseback acts like a tutorial for the series' Active Time Battle mechanics.

Of course, Caius pops up all through the game as a boss, so his final appearance would surely demand a bit of a change-up. Indeed, the final boss has three huge stages: Chaos Bahamut, Caius by himself, and the ultimate endgame challenge, the towering Jet Bahamut.

Somehow, the more times you defeat a boss, the more satisfying it is when they eventually do go down for good. Not that Caius's number is up here, as he stills ends up lingering on into the next game. Man, take the hint!
