10 Video Games That Surprisingly No-Showed E3 2021
8. Final Fantasy XVI
Though it was undeniably wishful thinking to expect Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 to show up during Square Enix's conference, it was decidedly more reasonable to think we might catch another glimpse of Final Fantasy XVI.
The RPG sequel was unexpectedly announced at a Sony livestream last September, and with reliable insider support suggesting the game is much further along than fans might reasonably think, a follow-up gameplay blow-out seemed like a fair shout.
But Square Enix's show came and went without even a passing mention of FFXVI, much to fans' chagrin, opting instead to announce a new spin-off game from Team Ninja, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.
While some are already speculating that this may mean it's going to be yet another Final Fantasy game that was revealed far too early and ends up taking years to come out, it's far more likely Square Enix decided to hold it back for Sony's own event in a few weeks, given that the game is a timed PS5 exclusive.
If it doesn't show up in Sony's next big streaming event then the alarm is a little more reasonable. Still, considering that FFXVI was revealed nine whole months ago, it's pretty surprising we didn't see more from it here.
