10 Video Games That Survived Embarrassing Launches
3. Destiny
There was so much riding on the Destiny hype train, that its initially falterings weren't enough to kill it entirely.
Coming off the back of their Halo lineage, Bungie had everything in place to continue their calibre of work. Heck, even Peter Dinklage was involved (even if it didn't go as well as planned).
On launch, however, fans were greeted with a bit of a mess with no clear instruction as to what was happening. Story elements were vague, with many criticising the nature of repetitive grind (which was a lot, even for this type of game). Despite earning $300 million on its first week, fans were more upset that they'd just bought into the hype.
But Bungie persevered, knuckled down and wrote some decent expansions in the Dark Below, the Taken King and Iron Throne DLC's, which renewed faith in Bungie's "spiritual successor" to the Halo franchise.
It's a testament that developers are willing to take on criticism and adapt to it, that led to Destiny's success and inevitable sequel.
