10 Video Games That Were Too Good To Be True

7. Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Fallout 76
EA

2008's Mirror's Edge was truly one of the most innovative and daring titles to release on the previous generation of consoles. By incorporating elements of parkour, and utilising a unique art style, EA DICE created an experience that unlike pretty much any other on the market at that time, spawning a loving fanbase.

So, when a second title in the series was announced nearly a decade after the original, fans were excited to see what Faith Connors making the jump onto a new platform would look like. However, despite looking beautiful, Catalyst actually represented a step backwards in terms of gameplay, with much of the fantastic pacing of the first title removed.

Much of this can be explained by the confounding choice to give the player an open world to explore. This may not seem like a bad thing, but Mirror's Edge is one of few games that really benefits from linearity, and the decision appeared to be more influenced by the current trend in gaming, rather than it actually benefitting the title, resulting for a much more sluggish experience.
